Every launch has a goal — the key is to anchor your metrics to that goal and show early signals of traction. Success is best measured more holistically from the execution of launch (short-term) but also the business impact it is meant to drive: GTM Execution: Track engagement signals like CTRs, time on page, demo requests, social shares, and media coverage to assess whether the messaging is resonating. Business Impact: Align metrics to the launch objective. For pipeline goals: leads generated, ...Read More

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. The decision depends on factors like market readiness and internal team preparedness, but also on the product’s stage. For a new product, especially in its early stages, it’s often best to start small. If you’re still refining the product-market fit (PMF), it can be challenging to scale globally with a small team. Limited resources and local insights are crucial at this stage. Expanding too soon may slow down your ability to move fast. When launching a produc ...Read More

PMMs take ownership of the GTM strategy, execution, and tracking during product launches. For a Tier 0 launch, some of the primary activities looks like this: GTM Strategy: Define the launch plan and collaborate with teams across the organization to drive execution. Positioning & Messaging: Work closely with the PM team to clarify the value proposition, test messaging, and refine as we go. Analyst Briefings: Partner with the AR team to make sure analysts are aligned and engaged. PR & Ext ...Read More

  4. Is summer (July/Aug) a viable time period for doing a product launch in B2B SaaS?

I have typically avoided July/August for important launches. We aren't targeting federal gov't where late Sept/Oct 1 budgets may be an opportunity. Has anyone has done an effective launch mid-summer? I am considering a soft launch to customers only with a more public push in the fall. Thoughts?

It sounds like you're planning a significant launch. We typically schedule ours around major industry events or key company milestones, usually in the fall or the first quarter of the year. That said, a soft launch or early VIP release to a smaller customer group can still be effective. It’s a great way to build early traction, convert users into champions, and gather customer success stories. These stories can serve as powerful proof points when you go public in the fall, when decision-makers a ...Read More

Yes, we absolutely tier our launches. Not every launch has the same level of business impact, and that naturally defines the budget. For example: Tier 0 (New Product Launch): Requires high investment — think PR, analyst briefings, customer webinars, and paid campaigns. Tier 1 (Significant Add-on): Focuses on blogs, nurture emails, and updates to monetization/packaging. Tier 2 (Minor Feature Launch): More focused on internal updates, like documentation, release notes, and customer comms. The laun ...Read More

Balance structure with flexibility: Avoid getting bogged down by too many processes. Keep it simple and agile. E.g. Skip heavy paperwork or procurement early on. Define clear hypotheses: Be crystal clear on your target persona, their jobs-to-be-done, and the value proposition you’re testing. Select beta customers carefully: Choose those who are willing to invest time and resources to test the product and provide honest, constructive feedback. Secure buy-in from key sponsors before launching. Kee ...Read More
