I like Christina Franson's mixed berry fruit salad analogy in an earlier comment. In industry marketing, you often synthesize multiple product areas to present a holistic solution to buyers in a specific industry. A PMM owning a specific product area will often focus more deeply and narrowly on their domain. That's not as true at a startup.
