Product Marketing at Airwallex

San Francisco, California

I'm a product marketing leader with over a decade in tech, spanning fintech, productivity, collaboration, and networking. I've led countless product launches and go-to-market strategies across B2C and B2B—from SaaS to hardware to new categories (and, of course, all the content and marketing campaigns in between). But what excites me most? Growing and developing PMM teams. People management has become the most rewarding part of my career, and I'm incredIbly passionate about helping other PMMS (and even marketers looking to get into PMM) level up and make an impact.

There are so many AI tools out there and, in my opinion, each person will have their favorites based on their preference and usage so I encourage all PMMs to get out and try different AI tools. But my current three favorites are Claude, Grammarly (now Superhuman), and ChatGPT. For me, they each have their purpose: Claude: I've found that Claude is a really great thought partner—particularly around marketing content. I find the answers to always be thoughtful and their follow-up questions to my p ...Read More

In all honesty, relationships with the Product team can be hard. There's often times tension between PM and PMM across a multitude of things: scope, GTM strategy, messaging. But the best relationships are built on trust and transparency—both of which should come from communication and collaboration. Here are some strategies that have worked for me around comms and collab: 1. Be open and ask questions. PMs are the expert in their product, so ask them about it. Take the time to do a listening tour ...Read More

This might be an unusual answer, but relationship building. So much of a PMM's job is, in fact, internal. I often say that PMMs don't necessarily directly own a ton of things. We don't own the product, we don't own sales numbers, we don't own marketing channels. What we do own (or should own in my opinion) is GTM strategy. What that means is that PMMs have to influence and align so many different departments that each have their own goals to a north star for a product or portfolio or solution. PM ...Read More

It's hard to identify the top use case as it'll differ depending on what kind of product marketing you're focusing on but I find that I have two favorites: 1. Competitive research and analysis: This has been one of my favorite use cases for Gen AI because it's a really great way to quickly get a handle on the competition. This is particularly useful if you're entering a new industry or you want help with a concise overview to help with things like messaging or GTM/campaign strategy. (Also can be ...Read More

This is such a great question and something I'm really passionate about when coaching my team.At a high level, what I've found effective for senior leaders is to cut out the details and, upfront, give them an overview of what you're covering, why, and what you're asking of them. For my team, I always give context, details, and transparency of the why and the unknown. Some specifics and examples that have worked for me for both areas:Senior leaders If you're prepping for a meeting, send a pre-rea ...Read More

A few ways I've seen AI fundamentally change my PMM day to day: Information synthesis: The amount of meetings we're in, docs or decks (even internal wikis) we have to read, notes we're taking...it's a lot. The work we do requires (most of the time) all the context or knowledge of either a particular product, decision, strategy and reading through everything takes a ton of time. I've found AI to be really helpful in synthesizing information to help me get a quick read on what I need to know. To b ...Read More

This might be a hot take, but PMMs who can build and grow deep relationships, align stakeholders of all levels, and have an executive presence (both in written and verbal communication) will be the ones to flourish because these, in my opinion, are the soft human skills AI cannot replicate.Building relationships: PMMs work with almost every department and the best PMMs know how to navigate across their company to get things done. So much of our job is helping others execute across their channels ...Read More

I've got one answer that is relevant to AI skills...and one, maybe, hot take to this question. AI Skills: Go beyond chats and go agentic. I know, I know. If you're following all things AI then you know the buzzword that is "agentic AI." To me, I try and put this as simply as I can: the goal is to build something, end-to-end, that does XYZ. That might be oversimplifying, but I basically mean that learning and building great prompts is only part of the answer—the stand out, you have really build s ...Read More

I have a love/hate relationship with naming because there are always so many opinions, but I've found that established principles, good old brainstorming, and competitive research are things that help. Establish principles: Naming can be fun and creative, but it can also go in a million different ways unless there are established guidelines. Work with PM to align on if this is a branded or unbranded term. Do we want this to be a description or an actual name? What are the company's brand guideli ...Read More

My (maybe) hot take on this is beyond what everyone else said in this thread (prompting, experimentation/familiarity with tools, etc.), it's more important than ever to hone in influence, communication, and human relationships. Focus on things that AI can't replace. The things that really need that human touch. In my opinion, that's what differentiates good vs. great PMMs. PMMs that can influence and work with stakeholders of all teams and levels and communicate clearly and human (especially in ...Read More
