How do we get finance to consult with us before cutting budget from customer success and marketing?

Our finance team substantially cut the budget without our input.

    This can be a tough situation for you and for finance, and how this works will vary by company and situation. First, I would be empathetic to the finance team driving budget cuts. There's a good chance those decisions are confidential and the result of pressure from investors, the CEO, the board.     You have to do this work before the cuts are on the table. Once they're in the model, you're playing defense and you're probably going to lose. Make the downstream cost of cutting visible before the conversation gets charged. Build a model that connects cost of churn to cost of CS. Finance responds to math, not advocacy.
