Short answer is that the PMMs that stand out to me are the ones that anticipate challenges and proactively address them. All PMMs can take work that's assigned to them but very few create their own meaningful bodies of work. First off, resist the urge to immediately suggest changes. Spend your first 30-60 days understanding the current processes, team dynamics, what's working well, and where there may be some areas for improvement. A few that I've seen work:
Quickly learn the business and the product (a great PMM should be able to pitch/demo the product)
Embed cross-functionally as the Product marketer for that product
Offer when possible to contribute/help out as a brainstorming partner
Develop a point of view
Have a pulse on the happenings with key accounts and products that you are not aligned to
