Who should interview a PMM candidate so you get the signal you need?

    This is nuanced a lot by organization, but outside of a typical process (manager screens, homework exercises, executive sign off, etc), the most important signals I look for are in two key steps—a functional and cross-functional interview. For the functional interview, I'm looking for a pulse check from another product marketer (or marketer if you are just building out the team) to test for excellence in the areas that matter for the role.     The specific panel composition I would recommend will depend highly on your company stage / scale. For example, when I led Product at a Series A company and was hiring our company's first PMM, the importance of getting this hire right was magnified.     It depends on if you are hiring for an Inbound PMM or an Outbound PMM. For both types of PMMs while you have peer interviews lined up from the PMM function, it's also good to have leaders from cross-functional teams meet them as the PMM role is a hyper collaborative one.
